What should I know about aluminium roller garage doors in Devon?
- Check there is roughly 75 to 100 mm of solid wall on each side of the opening for the aluminium guide rails to fix to.
- On a newer estate, read your deeds for any covenant about garage door style or colour before you settle on a finish.
- Measure the space between the top of the opening and the ceiling, because the coiled curtain needs a box that is commonly around 205 to 300 mm deep or more.
- Decide whether the garage is just for parking and storage, where single-skin laths may be enough, or used as a room, where insulated laths make more sense.

Rules that apply in England
Planning
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.
Powered door safety
Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.
Questions about aluminium roller garage doors in Devon
Which towns do you cover in Devon?
We cover Devon, including Plymouth, Exeter, Paignton and Torquay. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Devon online.
Can I get a price without anyone visiting?
Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.
How do I book a survey in Devon?
Start with the guide price tool or the form on this page. We then contact you to arrange a free survey for a new door, replacement or conversion, and confirm the date in writing.
Can I park right up to an aluminium roller door?
Yes. The curtain rises straight up into the box instead of tilting outwards like an up-and-over door, so you can park close to the opening and still open it fully. That is handy on a short drive, because nothing swings out over the space in front of the garage while the door is moving.
Can a manual aluminium roller door be made electric later?
Sometimes. A manual door can be converted to electric only if its curtain, barrel, box and guide rails are sound and compatible with a motor. If they aren't, we'll tell you at survey and price a new door instead. If you expect to want electric operation within a few years, it's usually simpler to choose it from the start.
