What should I know about aluminium roller garage doors in Pontefract?
- Check there is roughly 75 to 100 mm of solid wall on each side of the opening for the aluminium guide rails to fix to.
- Check whether the garage floor is level across the opening, as the bottom rail of the curtain needs to sit evenly when the door closes.
- If you want an electric door, look for a socket or fused spur near the top of the opening where the control box will go.
- Look at the lintel above the opening for cracks or sagging, because any repair or replacement is structural work that is priced separately on survey.

Rules that apply in Pontefract
Planning
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.
Electrics
An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in England some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.
Aluminium roller garage doors in Pontefract: questions
Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Pontefract?
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in England, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.
Do you cover Pontefract?
Yes. Pontefract is part of the area we cover in West Yorkshire, including WF8, WF7 and WF10. Get a guide price online, then we confirm a survey or visit date in writing. Dates depend on installer and engineer availability.
Do you charge more for Pontefract than other towns in West Yorkshire?
No. Guide prices are the same for Pontefract as for anywhere else we cover in West Yorkshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.
How much do aluminium roller garage doors cost in Pontefract?
Our guide price for aluminium roller garage doors is from £895 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Pontefract as elsewhere we cover.
How much room does an aluminium roller door take up inside the garage?
Very little. The curtain coils onto a barrel in a box at the top of the opening, so there are no ceiling tracks and nothing hangs across the roof space. You lose some height at the top for the box and a narrow strip at each side for the guide rails, both of which we measure at survey.
Can an aluminium roller door replace an up-and-over door?
Yes. We remove the old up-and-over door and its frame, or keep the frame if it's sound, then check the lintel and reveals before fitting the box behind the lintel and the guides to the reveals. Without swing-out arms you may gain a little clear width. Extra work, such as a new lintel or building out the reveals, is priced on survey.
