What should I know about battery backup and safety upgrades in Fleet?
- A battery backup unit lets the door run for a limited number of cycles when the mains power is off.
- Where a door has never had photocells, any extra wiring needed is priced before we come out.
- The battery charges from the mains while the power is on, so it's ready the next time there's a power cut.
- You're shown how to test the safety edge and photocells monthly, following the manufacturer's instructions for your door.
How does it work in Fleet?

Rules that apply in Fleet
Powered door safety
Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.
Electrics
An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in England some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.
Battery backup and safety upgrades in Fleet: questions
How much is a visit in Fleet?
Prices for battery backup and safety upgrades start from £99 inc VAT, and the price is agreed before anyone comes out. Any parts not covered by that price are quoted before they are fitted, so you can decide on the spot. The guide prices are the same in Fleet as elsewhere we cover.
What should I do while I wait for a visit in Fleet?
If the door is stuck part-open, keep people, pets and cars clear of it and switch off the power at the isolator if it is safe to reach. Do not force the curtain or open the roller box. Your Fleet visit date is confirmed in writing.
Do you charge more for Fleet than other towns in Hampshire?
No. Guide prices are the same for Fleet as for anywhere else we cover in Hampshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.
Will you fix the door on the first visit?
A fault can sometimes be found and put right on the first visit, but we never promise it. If a part needs ordering, we quote for it first, make the door safe where we can, and confirm the return date in writing.
Can a battery backup be fitted to a manual roller door?
No. A manual door has no motor or control box for a battery unit to power, because springs in the barrel balance the curtain and you lift it by hand. If you'd like powered operation, a manual-to-electric conversion may be possible when the curtain, barrel, box and guides are sound and compatible.
How often should I test the safety edge and photocells?
Test them monthly, following the manufacturer's instructions for your door. The aim is to confirm that the door stops or reverses when the safety edge meets an obstruction, and won't close while the photocell beam is broken. If either test fails, don't keep using the door until it has been checked, and request a visit.
