What should I know about battery backup and safety upgrades in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?
- Where a door has never had photocells, any extra wiring needed is priced before we come out.
- A pressure-sensitive safety edge on the bottom rail stops or reverses the door if it touches something while closing.
- Photocells mounted either side of the opening stop the door closing while anything is breaking the beam.
- A battery backup unit lets the door run for a limited number of cycles when the mains power is off.

Rules that apply in Scotland
Powered door safety
Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.
Electrics
An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Part P does not apply in Scotland, but electrical work must meet BS 7671 and the Scottish building standards where it forms part of building work.
Questions about battery backup and safety upgrades in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde
Can I get a price without anyone visiting?
Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.
Are guide prices the same across Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?
Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.
Which towns do you cover in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde?
We cover Renfrewshire and Inverclyde, including Paisley, Greenock, Newton Mearns and Renfrew. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Renfrewshire and Inverclyde online.
Do I still need the manual override if I have a battery backup?
Yes. A battery unit covers a limited number of cycles, and it can run down during a long power cut or as the battery ages. Keep the override handle somewhere you can find it in the dark, and make sure everyone who uses the garage knows where it is and how it works.
Can a battery backup be fitted to a manual roller door?
No. A manual door has no motor or control box for a battery unit to power, because springs in the barrel balance the curtain and you lift it by hand. If you'd like powered operation, a manual-to-electric conversion may be possible when the curtain, barrel, box and guides are sound and compatible.
