What should I know about coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors in Retford?
- Read your deeds for covenants about the front of the house, which some newer estates use to control colours.
- Ask whether the colour you want is in the manufacturer's range, because colours outside it are priced separately on survey.
- Check with your local planning authority before changing colour if your home is listed or in a conservation area.
- Decide whether you want the guide rails and box in the same finish, especially if the box will be face-fitted outside.

Rules that apply in Retford
Planning
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.
Structural work
Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control before it starts.
Coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors in Retford: questions
How long does it take to fit a roller garage door in Retford?
Most single domestic roller doors are fitted in a day once the door has been made, including removing the old door. Wider doors, conversions that need building work and jobs where power has to be run can take longer; the quote says what to expect.
Can I message you a photo of my garage in Retford?
Yes. Photos of the opening, the inside of the garage above the door and any existing door help us give a more useful guide price for Retford. Send them by WhatsApp or mention them in your enquiry, and we will reply in writing.
Is an electric roller door worth it for a garage in Retford?
That depends on how often you use the garage. An electric door opens from the car with a remote and has safety devices fitted, while a manual door costs less and suits occasional use. We price both for your Retford garage so you can compare.
How much do coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors cost in Retford?
Our guide price for coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors is from £990 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Retford as elsewhere we cover.
Does a woodgrain roller door need treating like real timber?
No. A woodgrain finish is a wood effect on aluminium or steel laths, so it doesn't need staining, oiling or varnishing like timber. Clean it as the manufacturer recommends and keep the guide rails free of debris. Manufacturer's warranty terms for the door and its finish are set out in writing in your quote.
Can I paint my existing roller garage door a new colour?
We supply new doors in the finish you choose rather than repainting existing doors. Painting a roller curtain yourself could affect how the laths coil and run in the guides, and may affect the manufacturer's warranty terms. If your door is tired and you want a new colour, a replacement door in your chosen finish is the reliable route.
