What should I know about coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors in East Grinstead?

Ask whether the colour you want is in the manufacturer's range, because colours outside it are priced separately on survey.
Compare any colour against your house in daylight, as screens and printed charts rarely show a shade accurately.
Read your deeds for covenants about the front of the house, which some newer estates use to control colours.
Look through the paperwork for your windows or front door, because the RAL code is the most reliable way to match the colour.

Rules that apply in East Grinstead

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control before it starts.

Coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors in East Grinstead: questions

What do you check at a survey in RH19?

At a survey in RH19 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in East Grinstead?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in England, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Do you cover East Grinstead?

Yes. East Grinstead is part of the area we cover in West Sussex, including RH19 and RH18. Get a guide price online, then we confirm a survey or visit date in writing. Dates depend on installer and engineer availability.

How long does it take to fit a roller garage door in East Grinstead?

Most single domestic roller doors are fitted in a day once the door has been made, including removing the old door. Wider doors, conversions that need building work and jobs where power has to be run can take longer; the quote says what to expect.

Will the guide rails and box match the door colour?

It's worth asking at the survey. On most fittings the box sits inside the garage, but the guide rails can be visible from outside, and a face-fitted box is fully on show. Finish options for the guides and box depend on the door model, so tell us what you'd like and the quote will state exactly what's included.

Can I have different colours on the inside and outside of the door?

That depends on what the manufacturer offers for the door you choose, because the finish options for the inside face of the curtain vary from one model to another. Tell us at the survey if the inside colour matters to you, for example on an integral garage you use as a utility space, and we'll confirm it in writing.
