What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Penzance?

Check whether the floor slopes or dips across the opening, as a wide bottom rail needs to sit evenly when closed.
Look along the lintel for cracks or sagging, because a wide door's box is fixed along its full length.
Ask whether pier removal needs building regulations approval before planning to turn two openings into one.
Decide whether one wide door or two single doors suits how you use the garage, especially if there is a central pier.

Rules that apply in Penzance

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Double and wide roller garage doors in Penzance: questions

Do you charge more for Penzance than other towns in Cornwall?

No. Guide prices are the same for Penzance as for anywhere else we cover in Cornwall. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.

Do you cover Penzance?

Yes. Penzance is part of the area we cover in Cornwall, including TR18 and TR20. Get a guide price online, then we confirm a survey or visit date in writing. Dates depend on installer and engineer availability.

How long does it take to fit a roller garage door in Penzance?

Most single domestic roller doors are fitted in a day once the door has been made, including removing the old door. Wider doors, conversions that need building work and jobs where power has to be run can take longer; the quote says what to expect.

How much do double and wide roller garage doors cost in Penzance?

Our guide price for double and wide roller garage doors is from £1,395 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Penzance as elsewhere we cover.

What if my garage opening is wider than 5.5 m?

We price it on survey. Openings over 5.5 m fall outside our standard price bands, because the door, the lintel and the fixing points need to be checked and specified individually. You can still use the online tool to tell us about the opening, and we'll arrange a free survey and give you a written quote.

Is a manual roller door practical on a double garage?

It can be, but only up to 4 m in our price list, and you'll be lifting a long curtain by hand each time, even with spring assistance. For a garage opened every day, or anyone who would find that hard work, an electric door is usually the better choice. Wide doubles between 4 and 5.5 m in our price list are electric.
