What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Carrickfergus?

Check whether the floor slopes or dips across the opening, as a wide bottom rail needs to sit evenly when closed.
Allow extra headroom for a wide door, since larger laths make a bigger roll and need a deeper box.
Make sure there's a clear route from the road to the garage, because a curtain for a wide opening is long and awkward to carry.
Look along the lintel for cracks or sagging, because a wide door's box is fixed along its full length.

Rules that apply in Carrickfergus

Structural work

Structural alterations, such as widening the opening or fitting a new lintel, need building control approval from your council under the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012 before work starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Northern Ireland. Listed building consent applies to listed buildings, and conservation-area controls, planning conditions or covenants can restrict changes to how a garage looks, so check before ordering.

Double and wide roller garage doors in Carrickfergus: questions

Is an electric roller door worth it for a garage in Carrickfergus?

That depends on how often you use the garage. An electric door opens from the car with a remote and has safety devices fitted, while a manual door costs less and suits occasional use. We price both for your Carrickfergus garage so you can compare.

Can I message you a photo of my garage in Carrickfergus?

Yes. Photos of the opening, the inside of the garage above the door and any existing door help us give a more useful guide price for Carrickfergus. Send them by WhatsApp or mention them in your enquiry, and we will reply in writing.

Can I get a price for Carrickfergus without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

How much do double and wide roller garage doors cost in Carrickfergus?

Our guide price for double and wide roller garage doors is from £1,395 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Carrickfergus as elsewhere we cover.

Will a roller door give me more width than my double up-and-over door?

Possibly a little. An up-and-over door has a frame and swing-out arms at the sides, and a roller door doesn't, so converting can improve the clear width slightly. The guide rails still need some side room at each end. We measure the clear width you'd get at survey, so you know before ordering.

Is a manual roller door practical on a double garage?

It can be, but only up to 4 m in our price list, and you'll be lifting a long curtain by hand each time, even with spring assistance. For a garage opened every day, or anyone who would find that hard work, an electric door is usually the better choice. Wide doubles between 4 and 5.5 m in our price list are electric.
