What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Gloucestershire?

Measure the width of your opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest figure for your guide price.
Decide whether one wide door or two single doors suits how you use the garage, especially if there is a central pier.
Think about electric operation for any opening over 4 m, since the wide doubles in our price list are all electric.
Check whether the floor slopes or dips across the opening, as a wide bottom rail needs to sit evenly when closed.

Rules that apply in England

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Questions about double and wide roller garage doors in Gloucestershire

How do I book a survey in Gloucestershire?

Start with the guide price tool or the form on this page. We then contact you to arrange a free survey for a new door, replacement or conversion, and confirm the date in writing.

Are guide prices the same across Gloucestershire?

Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Gloucestershire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.

Which towns do you cover in Gloucestershire?

We cover Gloucestershire, including Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud and Kingswood. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Gloucestershire online.

Will a roller door give me more width than my double up-and-over door?

Possibly a little. An up-and-over door has a frame and swing-out arms at the sides, and a roller door doesn't, so converting can improve the clear width slightly. The guide rails still need some side room at each end. We measure the clear width you'd get at survey, so you know before ordering.

Can I convert a double up-and-over door to a roller door?

Yes. We remove the old door and its frame, or keep the frame if it's sound, then check the lintel and reveals. The box is fitted behind the lintel and the guides to the reveals. Any extra work, such as a new lintel or building out the reveals, is priced on survey and listed separately in your written quote.
