What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Fulham?

Check whether the floor slopes or dips across the opening, as a wide bottom rail needs to sit evenly when closed.
Make sure there's a clear route from the road to the garage, because a curtain for a wide opening is long and awkward to carry.
Decide whether one wide door or two single doors suits how you use the garage, especially if there is a central pier.
Allow extra headroom for a wide door, since larger laths make a bigger roll and need a deeper box.

How does it work in Fulham?

A free survey in Fulham then checks the width at several points, the lintel, headroom, floor and power. Your written quote lists the door and any structural work separately.

Rules that apply in Fulham

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Double and wide roller garage doors in Fulham: questions

What do you check at a survey in SW6?

At a survey in SW6 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.

Can I message you a photo of my garage in Fulham?

Yes. Photos of the opening, the inside of the garage above the door and any existing door help us give a more useful guide price for Fulham. Send them by WhatsApp or mention them in your enquiry, and we will reply in writing.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Fulham?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in England, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

How much do double and wide roller garage doors cost in Fulham?

Our guide price for double and wide roller garage doors is from £1,395 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Fulham as elsewhere we cover.

What if my garage opening is wider than 5.5 m?

We price it on survey. Openings over 5.5 m fall outside our standard price bands, because the door, the lintel and the fixing points need to be checked and specified individually. You can still use the online tool to tell us about the opening, and we'll arrange a free survey and give you a written quote.

Is a manual roller door practical on a double garage?

It can be, but only up to 4 m in our price list, and you'll be lifting a long curtain by hand each time, even with spring assistance. For a garage opened every day, or anyone who would find that hard work, an electric door is usually the better choice. Wide doubles between 4 and 5.5 m in our price list are electric.
