What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Chippenham?

Ask whether pier removal needs building regulations approval before planning to turn two openings into one.
Make sure there's a clear route from the road to the garage, because a curtain for a wide opening is long and awkward to carry.
Measure the width of your opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest figure for your guide price.
Decide whether one wide door or two single doors suits how you use the garage, especially if there is a central pier.

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Double and wide roller garage doors in Chippenham: questions

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Chippenham?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in England, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

How much do double and wide roller garage doors cost in Chippenham?

Our guide price for double and wide roller garage doors is from £1,395 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Chippenham as elsewhere we cover.

Do you cover Chippenham?

Yes. Chippenham is part of the area we cover in Wiltshire, including SN15. Get a guide price online, then we confirm a survey or visit date in writing. Dates depend on installer and engineer availability.

Do you charge more for Chippenham than other towns in Wiltshire?

No. Guide prices are the same for Chippenham as for anywhere else we cover in Wiltshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.

Is a manual roller door practical on a double garage?

It can be, but only up to 4 m in our price list, and you'll be lifting a long curtain by hand each time, even with spring assistance. For a garage opened every day, or anyone who would find that hard work, an electric door is usually the better choice. Wide doubles between 4 and 5.5 m in our price list are electric.

What if my garage opening is wider than 5.5 m?

We price it on survey. Openings over 5.5 m fall outside our standard price bands, because the door, the lintel and the fixing points need to be checked and specified individually. You can still use the online tool to tell us about the opening, and we'll arrange a free survey and give you a written quote.
