What should I know about electric roller garage doors in Gwent?

Work out how many remote fobs the drivers in your household need, so the right number of extra handsets can be listed in the quote.
Find out whether there is a socket or fused spur near the top of the opening, since the motor's control box needs a power supply close by.
Ask for the Declaration of Conformity and commissioning paperwork at handover, and store it with your other house documents.
Make sure there's a clear spot on the wall inside the garage for the control box, away from shelving or anything stacked in the way.

Rules that apply in Wales

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in Wales some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Questions about electric roller garage doors in Gwent

Which towns do you cover in Gwent?

We cover Gwent, including Newport, Cwmbran, Pontypool and Ebbw Vale. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Gwent online.

Can I get a price without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

Are guide prices the same across Gwent?

Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Gwent. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.

Can I open an electric roller door during a power cut?

Yes. Most electric roller doors have a manual override, normally an internal crank or winding handle that turns the barrel by hand. If the garage has no other entrance, ask about an external override. A battery backup unit is another option: it keeps the door running for a limited number of cycles while the power is off.

Why does my electric door start closing and then go back up?

That usually means a safety device thinks something is in the way. Check nothing is in the opening, wipe the photocell lenses and look for damage to the rubber safety edge on the bottom rail. If it keeps happening, stop using the door and ask for a repair visit, which is priced and agreed before anyone comes out.
