What should I know about insulated roller garage doors in Northamptonshire?

  • Measure the headroom above the opening carefully, because insulated laths make a bigger roll than single-skin and need a deeper box.
  • Check whether the floor dips or rises across the opening, because an uneven floor can leave a gap under the bottom rail that lets draughts in.
  • Check whether the garage has other weak spots, such as a single-glazed window or a gappy side door, that will still let heat out after the new door goes in.
  • Wider openings usually suit 77 mm laths for rigidity, so expect the lath size to be confirmed once the width has been measured at survey.

Rules that apply in England

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Questions about insulated roller garage doors in Northamptonshire

Are guide prices the same across Northamptonshire?

Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Northamptonshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Northamptonshire?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in England, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Which towns do you cover in Northamptonshire?

We cover Northamptonshire, including Northampton, Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Northamptonshire online.

Can insulation be added to my existing roller door?

Not in a practical way. The foam sits between the two aluminium skins of each lath when it's made, so a single-skin curtain can't simply be filled or lined. Getting insulated laths means a new curtain, and because the box and barrel need to suit the larger roll, that normally means a new door, which we can quote as a replacement.

Is an insulated door worth it for a detached garage?

It depends on how you use the garage. If it's only for parking or storing tools, single-skin laths may be enough. If you work out there, store anything that dislikes the cold, or want it quieter, insulated laths are worth the extra cost. Remember the walls, roof and floor also let heat out, so the door is only part of the picture.
