What should I know about low-headroom roller garage doors in the Highlands, Moray and Islands?
- Look for pipes, cables, lights or joists just above the opening, as moving one may free up room for the box behind the lintel.
- If your home is on a newer estate, read your deeds for any covenant that covers changes to the front of the garage.
- Consider where the power supply would reach the motor if the box ends up under the lintel or on the outside wall.
- Ask to see the clear opening height you would keep with each box position before you settle on one.

Questions about low-headroom roller garage doors in the Highlands, Moray and Islands
Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in the Highlands, Moray and Islands?
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Scotland, and widening the opening needs a building warrant. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Which towns do you cover in the Highlands, Moray and Islands?
We cover the Highlands, Moray and Islands, including Inverness, Elgin, Fort William and Nairn. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in the Highlands, Moray and Islands online.
Is an insulated door possible with low headroom?
Often, yes. Insulated laths make a larger roll than single-skin laths of the same height, so the box is bigger. If that box won't fit behind the lintel, it can go under the lintel or in front of the wall. We'll show you the clear height you'd keep with each option, so you can decide whether insulation is worth the trade-off.
Can I move pipes or a light to make room for the box?
Sometimes that's the simplest answer. If a pipe, cable or light fitting sits just where the box needs to go, moving it may let the box go behind the lintel in the usual way. Any electrical changes should be made by a qualified electrician. We'll point out obstructions at survey and include any work we're doing in the written quote.
