  • If your door isn't suitable for a motor, we tell you plainly and price a new electric door for comparison.
  • A safety edge on the bottom rail, and photocells where the risk assessment calls for them, stop or reverse the door on obstruction.
  • The engineer releases the spring tension and converts or replaces the barrel so a tubular motor can drive it, with a control box on the wall.

Manual to electric roller door conversion in Motherwell: questions

Can I get a price for Motherwell without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

Do you charge more for Motherwell than other towns in Lanarkshire?

No. Guide prices are the same for Motherwell as for anywhere else we cover in Lanarkshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.

How much does manual to electric roller door conversion cost in Motherwell?

Our guide price for manual to electric roller door conversion is from £495 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Motherwell as elsewhere we cover.

What do you check at a survey in ML1?

At a survey in ML1 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.

What safety devices are added to a converted door?

A converted door gets a pressure-sensitive safety edge on the bottom rail and, where the risk assessment calls for them, photocells across the opening. These stop or reverse the door if it touches or detects an obstruction. After fitting, the closing force is tested to BS EN 12453, and you receive a Declaration of Conformity along with the rest of the handover paperwork.

Will I still be able to open the door by hand?

Not in the way you do now, because the motor holds the curtain in place. Most electric roller doors have a manual override, usually an internal crank or winding handle, for use in a power cut. A battery backup unit can also be added so the door runs for a limited number of cycles when the power is off.
