What should I know about remote control and keypad upgrades in March?

  • Handsets and keypads are priced individually, so your confirmation shows the visit and each item you have chosen.
  • Recoding after moving house means only the handsets you hold can open the door, whatever the previous owners kept.
  • Rolling-code handsets are matched to your door's receiver, paired during the visit and tested before we leave.
  • Recoding clears the receiver's memory so a lost or stolen fob can no longer open your garage door.

Rules that apply in March

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in England some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Remote control and keypad upgrades in March: questions

Can I message you a photo of my garage in March?

Yes. Photos of the opening, the inside of the garage above the door and any existing door help us give a more useful guide price for March. Send them by WhatsApp or mention them in your enquiry, and we will reply in writing.

What should I do while I wait for a visit in March?

If the door is stuck part-open, keep people, pets and cars clear of it and switch off the power at the isolator if it is safe to reach. Do not force the curtain or open the roller box. Your March visit date is confirmed in writing.

Do you cover March?

Yes. March is part of the area we cover in Cambridgeshire, including PE15. Get a guide price online, then we confirm a survey or visit date in writing. Dates depend on installer and engineer availability.

Do you charge more for March than other towns in Cambridgeshire?

No. Guide prices are the same for March as for anywhere else we cover in Cambridgeshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.

Will recoding stop a lost fob from working?

Yes. Recoding clears the receiver's memory of paired handsets and then adds back only the ones you still have, plus any new ones. The lost or stolen fob is no longer recognised, so it can't open the door. It's sensible to do this after moving house as well, when you can't be sure how many handsets exist.

Can you add a remote to a manual roller door?

Not on its own. A manual door has no motor or receiver for a remote to talk to, because springs in the barrel balance the curtain and you lift it by hand. To operate it by remote, the door first needs a manual-to-electric conversion, which is only possible when the curtain, barrel, box and guides are sound and compatible.
