What should I know about roller garage door replacement in Cardiff?

Security-rated models are available, and we show you the manufacturer's certificate for the exact door being quoted.
If only a lath or two is damaged on a sound door, we'll tell you that a repair may be better value.
The opening is measured again at the free survey, so the new door suits the opening rather than copying the old door's size.
We take down and dispose of the old roller or up-and-over door, and that is included in every door price.

How does it work in Cardiff?

We measure the opening, check how the old door is fixed, and look at headroom, side room, the lintel and power. Your written quote lists the new door, extras, removal and disposal of the old one, and anything priced on survey.

Rules that apply in Cardiff

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), is in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control in Wales before it starts.

Roller garage door replacement in Cardiff: questions

Is the survey in Cardiff really free?

Yes. For a new door, a replacement or a conversion, the survey is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. We measure the opening, check the lintel, headroom, side room and power, and send a written quote afterwards.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Cardiff?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

How long does it take to fit a roller garage door in Cardiff?

Most single domestic roller doors are fitted in a day once the door has been made, including removing the old door. Wider doors, conversions that need building work and jobs where power has to be run can take longer; the quote says what to expect.

How much does roller garage door replacement cost in Cardiff?

Our guide price for roller garage door replacement is from £1,195 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Cardiff as elsewhere we cover.

How long will a new roller garage door last?

Lifespan depends on use, exposure and care rather than a fixed number of years. Keeping the guide rails clean, using only the lubricant the manufacturer allows, testing the safety devices monthly and having the door serviced all help. The manufacturer's warranty terms for your door and motor are set out in writing in your quote.

Is VAT included in the replacement price?

Yes. Home prices are shown including VAT. Garage doors are standard-rated at 20% and there's no reduced rate for them, so the figure in your written quote is the price you pay, unless you change the specification or further work is agreed with you in writing.
