What should I know about steel roller garage doors in Ayrshire?
- Compare steel with insulated aluminium if a warmer garage is a priority, as it's the foam-filled lath that reduces heat loss.
- Think about whether battery backup is worth adding, so the door keeps working for a limited number of cycles when the power is off.
- Ask to see the security certificate if resistance to forced entry matters, because steel on its own doesn't make a door security-rated.
- Find out whether there's a socket or fused spur near the box position, since every steel door we price is electric.

Rules that apply in Scotland
Planning
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Scotland. Listed building consent applies to listed buildings, and conservation-area controls, planning conditions or title conditions can restrict changes to how a garage looks, so check before ordering.
Powered door safety
Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.
Questions about steel roller garage doors in Ayrshire
Which towns do you cover in Ayrshire?
We cover Ayrshire, including Kilmarnock, Ayr, Irvine and Kilwinning. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Ayrshire online.
Are guide prices the same across Ayrshire?
Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Ayrshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.
Can I get a price without anyone visiting?
Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.
How do I open a steel roller door in a power cut?
Use the manual override, normally an internal crank or winding handle that turns the barrel by hand. Keep it somewhere you can find quickly. A steel curtain is heavy, so take your time and wind steadily. If you'd rather not crank it, battery backup keeps the door running for a limited number of cycles while the power is off.
Can I have a manual steel roller door?
The steel doors in our price list are electric, because a steel curtain is heavier than an aluminium one and the tubular motor does the lifting. If you want a hand-operated door, our manual doors use single-skin aluminium laths. Where there's no socket near the box, a qualified electrician can fit a fused spur from an existing circuit, shown as a separate line in your quote; a new supply to a garage with no power is priced on survey.
