What should I know about aluminium roller garage doors in Orpington?
- Measure the space between the top of the opening and the ceiling, because the coiled curtain needs a box that is commonly around 205 to 300 mm deep or more.
- If you want an electric door, look for a socket or fused spur near the top of the opening where the control box will go.
- Check whether the garage floor is level across the opening, as the bottom rail of the curtain needs to sit evenly when the door closes.
- Look at the lintel above the opening for cracks or sagging, because any repair or replacement is structural work that is priced separately on survey.

Rules that apply in Orpington
Planning
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.
Powered door safety
Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.
Aluminium roller garage doors in Orpington: questions
Can I get a price for Orpington without anyone visiting?
Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.
What do you check at a survey in BR6?
At a survey in BR6 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.
Do you charge more for Orpington than other towns in Greater London?
No. Guide prices are the same for Orpington as for anywhere else we cover in Greater London. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.
How much do aluminium roller garage doors cost in Orpington?
Our guide price for aluminium roller garage doors is from £895 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Orpington as elsewhere we cover.
How much room does an aluminium roller door take up inside the garage?
Very little. The curtain coils onto a barrel in a box at the top of the opening, so there are no ceiling tracks and nothing hangs across the roof space. You lose some height at the top for the box and a narrow strip at each side for the guide rails, both of which we measure at survey.
Can I park right up to an aluminium roller door?
Yes. The curtain rises straight up into the box instead of tilting outwards like an up-and-over door, so you can park close to the opening and still open it fully. That is handy on a short drive, because nothing swings out over the space in front of the garage while the door is moving.
