What should I know about aluminium roller garage doors in Caernarfon?
- Check whether the garage floor is level across the opening, as the bottom rail of the curtain needs to sit evenly when the door closes.
- Decide whether the garage is just for parking and storage, where single-skin laths may be enough, or used as a room, where insulated laths make more sense.
- Think about whether the finish should match your windows, front door or fascias, since RAL colours and woodgrain are available as a priced extra.
- On a newer estate, read your deeds for any covenant about garage door style or colour before you settle on a finish.

Rules that apply in Caernarfon
Structural work
Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control in Wales before it starts.
Planning
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), is in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.
Aluminium roller garage doors in Caernarfon: questions
Can I message you a photo of my garage in Caernarfon?
Yes. Photos of the opening, the inside of the garage above the door and any existing door help us give a more useful guide price for Caernarfon. Send them by WhatsApp or mention them in your enquiry, and we will reply in writing.
How long does it take to fit a roller garage door in Caernarfon?
Most single domestic roller doors are fitted in a day once the door has been made, including removing the old door. Wider doors, conversions that need building work and jobs where power has to be run can take longer; the quote says what to expect.
What do you check at a survey in LL55?
At a survey in LL55 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.
Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Caernarfon?
Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.
How much room does an aluminium roller door take up inside the garage?
Very little. The curtain coils onto a barrel in a box at the top of the opening, so there are no ceiling tracks and nothing hangs across the roof space. You lose some height at the top for the box and a narrow strip at each side for the guide rails, both of which we measure at survey.
Can a manual aluminium roller door be made electric later?
Sometimes. A manual door can be converted to electric only if its curtain, barrel, box and guide rails are sound and compatible with a motor. If they aren't, we'll tell you at survey and price a new door instead. If you expect to want electric operation within a few years, it's usually simpler to choose it from the start.
