What should I know about coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors in Caernarfon?

Read your deeds for covenants about the front of the house, which some newer estates use to control colours.
Decide whether you want the guide rails and box in the same finish, especially if the box will be face-fitted outside.
Think about the inside face of the door if the garage is integral or used as a room, since finishes can differ by side.
Compare any colour against your house in daylight, as screens and printed charts rarely show a shade accurately.

Rules that apply in Caernarfon

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), is in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control in Wales before it starts.

Coloured and woodgrain roller garage doors in Caernarfon: questions

Do you cover Caernarfon?

Yes. Caernarfon is part of the area we cover in Gwynedd, including LL55. Get a guide price online, then we confirm a survey or visit date in writing. Dates depend on installer and engineer availability.

Is the survey in Caernarfon really free?

Yes. For a new door, a replacement or a conversion, the survey is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. We measure the opening, check the lintel, headroom, side room and power, and send a written quote afterwards.

Is an electric roller door worth it for a garage in Caernarfon?

That depends on how often you use the garage. An electric door opens from the car with a remote and has safety devices fitted, while a manual door costs less and suits occasional use. We price both for your Caernarfon garage so you can compare.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Caernarfon?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Can I have different colours on the inside and outside of the door?

That depends on what the manufacturer offers for the door you choose, because the finish options for the inside face of the curtain vary from one model to another. Tell us at the survey if the inside colour matters to you, for example on an integral garage you use as a utility space, and we'll confirm it in writing.

Can I paint my existing roller garage door a new colour?

We supply new doors in the finish you choose rather than repainting existing doors. Painting a roller curtain yourself could affect how the laths coil and run in the guides, and may affect the manufacturer's warranty terms. If your door is tired and you want a new colour, a replacement door in your chosen finish is the reliable route.
