What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Colwyn Bay?

Look along the lintel for cracks or sagging, because a wide door's box is fixed along its full length.
Measure the width of your opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest figure for your guide price.
Allow extra headroom for a wide door, since larger laths make a bigger roll and need a deeper box.
Make sure there's a clear route from the road to the garage, because a curtain for a wide opening is long and awkward to carry.

Double and wide roller garage doors in Colwyn Bay: questions

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Colwyn Bay?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

What do you check at a survey in LL29?

At a survey in LL29 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.

How much do double and wide roller garage doors cost in Colwyn Bay?

Our guide price for double and wide roller garage doors is from £1,395 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Colwyn Bay as elsewhere we cover.

Do you charge more for Colwyn Bay than other towns in Clwyd?

No. Guide prices are the same for Colwyn Bay as for anywhere else we cover in Clwyd. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.

Do I need permission to turn two garage openings into one?

Removing a pier and fitting a longer lintel is structural work, and it may need Building Regulations approval. Whether planning permission is needed depends on your property, so check with your local authority, especially for listed buildings or homes in a conservation area. Our guide to planning and building regulations covers the questions to ask.

Will a roller door give me more width than my double up-and-over door?

Possibly a little. An up-and-over door has a frame and swing-out arms at the sides, and a roller door doesn't, so converting can improve the clear width slightly. The guide rails still need some side room at each end. We measure the clear width you'd get at survey, so you know before ordering.
