What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Crowborough?

Allow extra headroom for a wide door, since larger laths make a bigger roll and need a deeper box.
Ask whether pier removal needs building regulations approval before planning to turn two openings into one.
Think about electric operation for any opening over 4 m, since the wide doubles in our price list are all electric.
Make sure there's a clear route from the road to the garage, because a curtain for a wide opening is long and awkward to carry.

Rules that apply in Crowborough

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), sits in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Double and wide roller garage doors in Crowborough: questions

Can you remove my old garage door in Crowborough?

Yes. Every door price includes removing and disposing of an old roller or up-and-over door at your Crowborough address, along with standard fixings and making good to the reveals. If the frame or lintel needs work, we price it at the survey before you agree.

Is the survey in Crowborough really free?

Yes. For a new door, a replacement or a conversion, the survey is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. We measure the opening, check the lintel, headroom, side room and power, and send a written quote afterwards.

How much do double and wide roller garage doors cost in Crowborough?

Our guide price for double and wide roller garage doors is from £1,395 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Crowborough as elsewhere we cover.

Can I get a price for Crowborough without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

Will a roller door give me more width than my double up-and-over door?

Possibly a little. An up-and-over door has a frame and swing-out arms at the sides, and a roller door doesn't, so converting can improve the clear width slightly. The guide rails still need some side room at each end. We measure the clear width you'd get at survey, so you know before ordering.

Is a manual roller door practical on a double garage?

It can be, but only up to 4 m in our price list, and you'll be lifting a long curtain by hand each time, even with spring assistance. For a garage opened every day, or anyone who would find that hard work, an electric door is usually the better choice. Wide doubles between 4 and 5.5 m in our price list are electric.
