What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Tonypandy?

Make sure there's a clear route from the road to the garage, because a curtain for a wide opening is long and awkward to carry.
Measure the width of your opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest figure for your guide price.
Allow extra headroom for a wide door, since larger laths make a bigger roll and need a deeper box.
Ask whether pier removal needs building regulations approval before planning to turn two openings into one.

How does it work in Tonypandy?

A free survey in Tonypandy then checks the width at several points, the lintel, headroom, floor and power. Your written quote lists the door and any structural work separately.

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control in Wales before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), is in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Double and wide roller garage doors in Tonypandy: questions

Do you charge more for Tonypandy than other towns in Mid Glamorgan?

No. Guide prices are the same for Tonypandy as for anywhere else we cover in Mid Glamorgan. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.

Can you remove my old garage door in Tonypandy?

Yes. Every door price includes removing and disposing of an old roller or up-and-over door at your Tonypandy address, along with standard fixings and making good to the reveals. If the frame or lintel needs work, we price it at the survey before you agree.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Tonypandy?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

How much do double and wide roller garage doors cost in Tonypandy?

Our guide price for double and wide roller garage doors is from £1,395 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Tonypandy as elsewhere we cover.

Can I convert a double up-and-over door to a roller door?

Yes. We remove the old door and its frame, or keep the frame if it's sound, then check the lintel and reveals. The box is fitted behind the lintel and the guides to the reveals. Any extra work, such as a new lintel or building out the reveals, is priced on survey and listed separately in your written quote.

Is a manual roller door practical on a double garage?

It can be, but only up to 4 m in our price list, and you'll be lifting a long curtain by hand each time, even with spring assistance. For a garage opened every day, or anyone who would find that hard work, an electric door is usually the better choice. Wide doubles between 4 and 5.5 m in our price list are electric.
