What should I know about double and wide roller garage doors in Mid Glamorgan?

Decide whether one wide door or two single doors suits how you use the garage, especially if there is a central pier.
Look along the lintel for cracks or sagging, because a wide door's box is fixed along its full length.
Allow extra headroom for a wide door, since larger laths make a bigger roll and need a deeper box.
Check whether the floor slopes or dips across the opening, as a wide bottom rail needs to sit evenly when closed.

Rules that apply in Wales

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control in Wales before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), is in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Questions about double and wide roller garage doors in Mid Glamorgan

Are guide prices the same across Mid Glamorgan?

Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Mid Glamorgan. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.

How do I book a survey in Mid Glamorgan?

Start with the guide price tool or the form on this page. We then contact you to arrange a free survey for a new door, replacement or conversion, and confirm the date in writing.

Which towns do you cover in Mid Glamorgan?

We cover Mid Glamorgan, including Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, Rhondda and Pontypridd. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Mid Glamorgan online.

Is a manual roller door practical on a double garage?

It can be, but only up to 4 m in our price list, and you'll be lifting a long curtain by hand each time, even with spring assistance. For a garage opened every day, or anyone who would find that hard work, an electric door is usually the better choice. Wide doubles between 4 and 5.5 m in our price list are electric.

Can I convert a double up-and-over door to a roller door?

Yes. We remove the old door and its frame, or keep the frame if it's sound, then check the lintel and reveals. The box is fitted behind the lintel and the guides to the reveals. Any extra work, such as a new lintel or building out the reveals, is priced on survey and listed separately in your written quote.
