What should I know about low-headroom roller garage doors in the Scottish Borders?
- Think about how a visible face-fitted box would look on the front of your home before choosing that position.
- Look for pipes, cables, lights or joists just above the opening, as moving one may free up room for the box behind the lintel.
- If your home is on a newer estate, read your deeds for any covenant that covers changes to the front of the garage.
- Remember that taller doors and larger laths both need bigger boxes, which affects what will fit in a tight space.

Questions about low-headroom roller garage doors in the Scottish Borders
How do I book a survey in the Scottish Borders?
Start with the guide price tool or the form on this page. We then contact you to arrange a free survey for a new door, replacement or conversion, and confirm the date in writing.
Can I get a price without anyone visiting?
Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.
Which towns do you cover in the Scottish Borders?
We cover the Scottish Borders, including Hawick, Galashiels, Peebles and Kelso. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in the Scottish Borders online.
Is an insulated door possible with low headroom?
Often, yes. Insulated laths make a larger roll than single-skin laths of the same height, so the box is bigger. If that box won't fit behind the lintel, it can go under the lintel or in front of the wall. We'll show you the clear height you'd keep with each option, so you can decide whether insulation is worth the trade-off.
Can a smaller lath reduce the box size?
Lath size is one of the things that decides box size, because larger laths make a bigger roll. On narrower doors a smaller lath can help where headroom is tight. On wider doors, though, larger laths add the rigidity the curtain needs, so there's a balance to strike. We recommend the lath at survey based on your width, height and headroom.
