What should I know about made-to-measure roller garage doors in Dundee and Angus?

Read the sizes, fitting position and box position in your written quote carefully, because that's what the door will be made to.
Check the height at both sides and in the middle, since an uneven floor can make one side of the opening taller than the other.
Measure from the underside of the lintel to the ceiling or lowest obstruction, as that space decides the size and position of the box.
Check the clear wall either side of the opening, since the guide rails typically need around 75 to 100 mm each side.

Rules that apply in Scotland

Structural work

Structural alterations, such as widening the opening or fitting a new lintel, need a building warrant from the local authority before work starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Scotland. Listed building consent applies to listed buildings, and conservation-area controls, planning conditions or title conditions can restrict changes to how a garage looks, so check before ordering.

Questions about made-to-measure roller garage doors in Dundee and Angus

Can I get a price without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

Are guide prices the same across Dundee and Angus?

Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Dundee and Angus. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Dundee and Angus?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Scotland, and widening the opening needs a building warrant. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Can I order a made-to-measure door without a survey?

We don't order doors from customer measurements alone. The door is built to sizes taken at our free survey, where we also check the lintel, headroom, floor and power. That way, if the door doesn't fit, getting the sizes right is our job, not yours. Your own measurements are still useful for the online guide price before the survey.

Is a made-to-measure door more expensive than a standard size?

Our prices are set in width bands, and the door within each band is built to your measured sizes. The guide price changes when an opening moves into a wider band, or when it needs work beyond the door itself, such as a new lintel or building out the reveals. That extra work is priced on survey and shown on its own line in your written quote.
