What should I know about smart roller garage doors in Llandudno?

Consider battery backup alongside smart control, so the door still works for a limited number of cycles in a power cut.
Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the top of the garage opening, since the receiver needs a reliable connection there.
Find out whether there is a socket or fused spur near the box, as a smart receiver needs an electric door with power.
Only close the door from the app when you know the opening is clear, and keep testing the safety devices monthly.

Rules that apply in Llandudno

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in Wales some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Smart roller garage doors in Llandudno: questions

What do you check at a survey in LL30?

At a survey in LL30 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.

Is an electric roller door worth it for a garage in Llandudno?

That depends on how often you use the garage. An electric door opens from the car with a remote and has safety devices fitted, while a manual door costs less and suits occasional use. We price both for your Llandudno garage so you can compare.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Llandudno?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Do you charge more for Llandudno than other towns in Clwyd?

No. Guide prices are the same for Llandudno as for anywhere else we cover in Clwyd. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode, apart from islands and remote areas where any travel cost is shown in advance.

Does a smart garage door work with voice assistants?

Some smart receivers can link to voice assistants or home automation systems, but it varies from one receiver to another. If that matters to you, tell us at the survey and we'll confirm what the receiver for your door supports before you order. Think carefully before allowing voice commands to open the door, for security.

What happens to a smart garage door if the Wi-Fi goes down?

The app may stop responding until the Wi-Fi or internet connection comes back, but the door itself keeps working. Your remote fobs talk to the door directly, and any keypad or key switch works as normal. The door doesn't rely on the internet to open and close, only to take instructions from the app.
