What should I know about smart roller garage doors in County Down?

Decide who in the household should have app access, and plan how you will remove access when someone no longer needs it.
Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the top of the garage opening, since the receiver needs a reliable connection there.
Keep your remote fobs as well as the app, because they operate the door directly even when the internet is down.
Ask which features the smart receiver offers, such as showing whether the door is open, before you order it.

Rules that apply in Northern Ireland

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Part P does not apply in Northern Ireland, but electrical work must still meet BS 7671 and be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and CE marking, which is the marking that applies to machinery placed on the market in Northern Ireland.

Questions about smart roller garage doors in County Down

Can I get a price without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

Which towns do you cover in County Down?

We cover County Down, including Bangor, Newtownards, Newry and Banbridge. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in County Down online.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in County Down?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Northern Ireland, and widening the opening needs building control approval from your council. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Does a smart garage door work with voice assistants?

Some smart receivers can link to voice assistants or home automation systems, but it varies from one receiver to another. If that matters to you, tell us at the survey and we'll confirm what the receiver for your door supports before you order. Think carefully before allowing voice commands to open the door, for security.

What happens to a smart garage door if the Wi-Fi goes down?

The app may stop responding until the Wi-Fi or internet connection comes back, but the door itself keeps working. Your remote fobs talk to the door directly, and any keypad or key switch works as normal. The door doesn't rely on the internet to open and close, only to take instructions from the app.
