What should I know about smart roller garage doors in Aberystwyth?

Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the top of the garage opening, since the receiver needs a reliable connection there.
Keep your remote fobs as well as the app, because they operate the door directly even when the internet is down.
Find out whether there is a socket or fused spur near the box, as a smart receiver needs an electric door with power.
Decide who in the household should have app access, and plan how you will remove access when someone no longer needs it.

How does it work in Aberystwyth?

Rules that apply in Aberystwyth

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in Wales some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Smart roller garage doors in Aberystwyth: questions

Do you charge more for Aberystwyth?

Possibly. The door and visit guide prices are the same as elsewhere, but travel to Aberystwyth is priced individually and shown in writing before you agree to anything, so there are no surprises on the day.

Can you remove my old garage door in Aberystwyth?

Yes. Every door price includes removing and disposing of an old roller or up-and-over door at your Aberystwyth address, along with standard fixings and making good to the reveals. If the frame or lintel needs work, we price it at the survey before you agree.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Aberystwyth?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Can I get a price for Aberystwyth without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

What happens to a smart garage door if the Wi-Fi goes down?

The app may stop responding until the Wi-Fi or internet connection comes back, but the door itself keeps working. Your remote fobs talk to the door directly, and any keypad or key switch works as normal. The door doesn't rely on the internet to open and close, only to take instructions from the app.

Do I still get remote fobs with a smart door?

Yes. A smart door comes with rolling-code remote fobs as well as app control, so you have a way to operate it without your phone. Extra handsets can be added to your order, and a wireless keypad is useful for anyone without a fob or a phone to hand. Keep the manual override handle somewhere easy to find, too.
