What should I know about smart roller garage doors in Weston-super-Mare?

Find out whether there is a socket or fused spur near the box, as a smart receiver needs an electric door with power.
Think about whether a Wi-Fi extender or mesh point may be needed if the garage is detached or behind thick walls.
Keep your remote fobs as well as the app, because they operate the door directly even when the internet is down.
Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the top of the garage opening, since the receiver needs a reliable connection there.

Rules that apply in Weston-super-Mare

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in England some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Smart roller garage doors in Weston-super-Mare: questions

Is the survey in Weston-super-Mare really free?

Yes. For a new door, a replacement or a conversion, the survey is free and there is no obligation to go ahead. We measure the opening, check the lintel, headroom, side room and power, and send a written quote afterwards.

How much do smart roller garage doors cost in Weston-super-Mare?

Our guide price for smart roller garage doors is from £1,290 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Weston-super-Mare as elsewhere we cover.

Do you cover Weston-super-Mare?

Yes. Weston-super-Mare is part of the area we cover in Somerset, including BS23, BS22 and BS24. Get a guide price online, then we confirm a survey or visit date in writing. Dates depend on installer and engineer availability.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Weston-super-Mare?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in England, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Can several people control the door from their phones?

Usually, yes, though how access is shared depends on the app and receiver your door uses. It's worth keeping a list of who has access, and removing anyone who no longer needs it, in the same way you'd keep track of keys and fobs. Ask about sharing at the survey if it matters to you.

Do I still get remote fobs with a smart door?

Yes. A smart door comes with rolling-code remote fobs as well as app control, so you have a way to operate it without your phone. Extra handsets can be added to your order, and a wireless keypad is useful for anyone without a fob or a phone to hand. Keep the manual override handle somewhere easy to find, too.
