What should I know about steel roller garage doors in Gwynedd?

Look at the brick or blockwork on each side of the opening, as the guide rails for a steel door need solid reveals to fix to.
Decide where the override handle will be stored, because you'll need it to wind a steel curtain up during a power cut.
Check the lintel above the opening for cracks or sagging, since a heavier steel curtain relies on sound fixings at the top.
Compare steel with insulated aluminium if a warmer garage is a priority, as it's the foam-filled lath that reduces heat loss.

Rules that apply in Wales

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), is in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

How do I book a survey in Gwynedd?

Start with the guide price tool or the form on this page. We then contact you to arrange a free survey for a new door, replacement or conversion, and confirm the date in writing. Travel to Holyhead and Llangefni is priced individually and confirmed in writing before booking.

Is a steel door the right choice for a row of lock-ups?

It can be, particularly where a stiffer curtain appeals for garages that are opened less often. Every steel door in our price list is electric, though, so each garage needs a power supply near its box. Where lock-ups have no power, manual aluminium doors may be more practical. We can survey and price a whole row together.

How do I open a steel roller door in a power cut?

Use the manual override, normally an internal crank or winding handle that turns the barrel by hand. Keep it somewhere you can find quickly. A steel curtain is heavy, so take your time and wind steadily. If you'd rather not crank it, battery backup keeps the door running for a limited number of cycles while the power is off.
