What should I know about made-to-measure roller garage doors in Dyfed?

Look for pipes, cables or lights near the top of the opening inside, because they may need moving to make room for the box.
Note any piers, downpipes or meter boxes outside the opening that could affect a face-fixed door or box.
Check the clear wall either side of the opening, since the guide rails typically need around 75 to 100 mm each side.
Read the sizes, fitting position and box position in your written quote carefully, because that's what the door will be made to.

Rules that apply in Wales

Structural work

Widening the opening, removing a central pier or fitting a new lintel is structural work that needs Building Regulations approval from building control in Wales before it starts.

Planning

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales. Check first if your home is listed (listed building consent covers works that affect its character), is in a conservation area with an Article 4 direction, or is on an estate where planning conditions or covenants control garage doors.

Questions about made-to-measure roller garage doors in Dyfed

How do I book a survey in Dyfed?

Start with the guide price tool or the form on this page. We then contact you to arrange a free survey for a new door, replacement or conversion, and confirm the date in writing. Travel to Aberystwyth is priced individually and confirmed in writing before booking.

Are guide prices the same across Dyfed?

Yes for the door and visit prices. Travel to Aberystwyth is priced individually and shown in writing before you agree to anything.

Can I get a price without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

What if my opening is narrower than a typical garage door?

Narrow openings are fine, because the door is built to your width. Side room is the main thing to check, since each guide rail needs some clear wall beside the opening. If the opening is narrow and you'd like as much clear width as possible, we'll explain how each fitting position affects the space you'll have for the car.

Can I order a made-to-measure door without a survey?

We don't order doors from customer measurements alone. The door is built to sizes taken at our free survey, where we also check the lintel, headroom, floor and power. That way, if the door doesn't fit, getting the sizes right is our job, not yours. Your own measurements are still useful for the online guide price before the survey.
