Rules that apply in England
Electrics
An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in England some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.
Powered door safety
Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.
Questions about manual to electric roller door conversion in Greater Manchester
Are guide prices the same across Greater Manchester?
Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in Greater Manchester. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.
Can I get a price without anyone visiting?
Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.
Which towns do you cover in Greater Manchester?
We cover Greater Manchester, including Manchester, Oldham, Wigan and Bolton. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Greater Manchester online.
Is converting better value than buying a new electric door?
Compare the conversion price with the new-door prices on our prices page. A conversion keeps your existing curtain, barrel, box and guides, so it only makes sense when those parts are in good condition. If the door is worn, or you'd like insulated laths, a new electric door may be better value overall, and your quote can show both.
Will I still be able to open the door by hand?
Not in the way you do now, because the motor holds the curtain in place. Most electric roller doors have a manual override, usually an internal crank or winding handle, for use in a power cut. A battery backup unit can also be added so the door runs for a limited number of cycles when the power is off.
