What should I know about smart roller garage doors in Pontypool?

Decide who in the household should have app access, and plan how you will remove access when someone no longer needs it.
Think about whether a Wi-Fi extender or mesh point may be needed if the garage is detached or behind thick walls.
Only close the door from the app when you know the opening is clear, and keep testing the safety devices monthly.
Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the top of the garage opening, since the receiver needs a reliable connection there.

Rules that apply in Pontypool

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in Wales some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Smart roller garage doors in Pontypool: questions

How much do smart roller garage doors cost in Pontypool?

Our guide price for smart roller garage doors is from £1,290 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Pontypool as elsewhere we cover.

What do you check at a survey in NP4?

At a survey in NP4 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Pontypool?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Can I get a price for Pontypool without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

Does a smart garage door work with voice assistants?

Some smart receivers can link to voice assistants or home automation systems, but it varies from one receiver to another. If that matters to you, tell us at the survey and we'll confirm what the receiver for your door supports before you order. Think carefully before allowing voice commands to open the door, for security.

Do I still get remote fobs with a smart door?

Yes. A smart door comes with rolling-code remote fobs as well as app control, so you have a way to operate it without your phone. Extra handsets can be added to your order, and a wireless keypad is useful for anyone without a fob or a phone to hand. Keep the manual override handle somewhere easy to find, too.
