What should I know about smart roller garage doors in Merthyr Tydfil?

Consider battery backup alongside smart control, so the door still works for a limited number of cycles in a power cut.
Check the Wi-Fi signal on your phone at the top of the garage opening, since the receiver needs a reliable connection there.
Ask which features the smart receiver offers, such as showing whether the door is open, before you order it.
Think about whether a Wi-Fi extender or mesh point may be needed if the garage is detached or behind thick walls.

Rules that apply in Merthyr Tydfil

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in Wales some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Smart roller garage doors in Merthyr Tydfil: questions

What do you check at a survey in CF47?

At a survey in CF47 we measure the width and height of the opening, the headroom above it for the roller box, the side room for the guide rails and the floor level. We also look at the lintel and where power can come from for an electric door.

How much do smart roller garage doors cost in Merthyr Tydfil?

Our guide price for smart roller garage doors is from £1,290 inc VAT. The figure for your garage depends on the opening size, the door specification and any extras, and is confirmed in a written quote after a free survey. The guide prices are the same in Merthyr Tydfil as elsewhere we cover.

Can I message you a photo of my garage in Merthyr Tydfil?

Yes. Photos of the opening, the inside of the garage above the door and any existing door help us give a more useful guide price for Merthyr Tydfil. Send them by WhatsApp or mention them in your enquiry, and we will reply in writing.

Do I need permission for a new roller garage door in Merthyr Tydfil?

Replacing a garage door is not usually development that needs planning permission in Wales, and widening the opening needs building control approval. If you live in a listed building, a conservation area or on an estate with covenants or planning conditions, check before ordering.

Can several people control the door from their phones?

Usually, yes, though how access is shared depends on the app and receiver your door uses. It's worth keeping a list of who has access, and removing anyone who no longer needs it, in the same way you'd keep track of keys and fobs. Ask about sharing at the survey if it matters to you.

Does a smart garage door work with voice assistants?

Some smart receivers can link to voice assistants or home automation systems, but it varies from one receiver to another. If that matters to you, tell us at the survey and we'll confirm what the receiver for your door supports before you order. Think carefully before allowing voice commands to open the door, for security.
