- You're shown how to test the safety edge and photocells monthly, following the manufacturer's instructions for your door.
- A pressure-sensitive safety edge on the bottom rail stops or reverses the door if it touches something while closing.

Rules that apply in Wales
Powered door safety
Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.
Electrics
An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in Wales some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.
Questions about battery backup and safety upgrades in Gwynedd
Which towns do you cover in Gwynedd?
We cover Gwynedd, including Bangor, Holyhead, Caernarfon and Llangefni. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in Gwynedd online.
Are guide prices the same across Gwynedd?
Yes for the door and visit prices. Travel to Holyhead and Llangefni is priced individually and shown in writing before you agree to anything.
Can I get a price without anyone visiting?
Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.
Do I still need the manual override if I have a battery backup?
Yes. A battery unit covers a limited number of cycles, and it can run down during a long power cut or as the battery ages. Keep the override handle somewhere you can find it in the dark, and make sure everyone who uses the garage knows where it is and how it works.
How often should I test the safety edge and photocells?
Test them monthly, following the manufacturer's instructions for your door. The aim is to confirm that the door stops or reverses when the safety edge meets an obstruction, and won't close while the photocell beam is broken. If either test fails, don't keep using the door until it has been checked, and request a visit.
