What should I know about safety edge and photocell repairs in West Yorkshire?

  • Photocells can often be added to doors that only have a safety edge, if the control box allows it.
  • Photocells either side of the opening stop the door closing while anything is breaking the beam between them.
  • After a repair, the door is tested to check it stops or reverses on obstruction before it's handed back.
  • The engineer tests the whole circuit, because a damaged cable or control box fault can look like a failed device.

Rules that apply in England

Powered door safety

Every powered door we fit is commissioned with force testing to BS EN 12453 and handed over with a Declaration of Conformity and UKCA or CE marking, as the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 require.

Electrics

An electric door needs a power supply near the roller box. Electrical work must meet BS 7671, and in England some domestic electrical work is notifiable under Part P, so it is done by a registered competent person or signed off by building control.

Questions about safety edge and photocell repairs in West Yorkshire

Which towns do you cover in West Yorkshire?

We cover West Yorkshire, including Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield and Wakefield. Every town has its own page with local details, and you can start a guide price for any postcode in West Yorkshire online.

Can I get a price without anyone visiting?

Yes. The guide price tool takes four steps and gives a range for your opening and door type, or the visit price for a repair. It is a guide, not a quote: the written quote comes after the survey or once the visit price is agreed.

Are guide prices the same across West Yorkshire?

Yes. The guide prices are the same in every town in West Yorkshire. The written quote reflects your opening and the door you choose, not your postcode.

Can I bypass the photocells to get the door shut?

No. Bypassing, bridging or taping over a safety device removes the protection that stops the door closing onto a person, pet or car. If the door won't close, switch it off at the isolator, keep the area clear and request a visit. Tell us if you're concerned about security when you get in touch.

Can photocells be added to a door that doesn't have them?

Often, if the control box has a connection for them. Some older systems need extra wiring or a replacement control box first. Tell us what's on the control box label and we'll confirm whether photocells can be added, and the price, before booking. Our battery backup and safety upgrades page covers adding devices.
